Finca El Petaton is located in the western highlands of Guatemala’s famous Huehuetenango region. The region is known for for it’s rich, fertile soils and micro-climates which make it the perfect location for growing excellent coffee.
Thanks to the dry, hot winds that blow over from Mexico’s Tehuantepec plain, the Huehuetenango region is protected from frost, which allows for cultivation at extreme altitudes. Due to this, Finca El Petaton’s coffee has great acidity, full body and delightful malt and wine notes present in the cup.
After harvesting, this coffee is fully washed and sun dried on patios for 12 days.
Since Break Fluid was launched we’ve always run BFGT as a blend. Why? Because with a blend you can cover all bases. Single origins are great because you get to taste what that particular coffee is all about. It’s rare however that one coffee can tick every box we require for GT. For us GT has to be full bodied, sweet, lots of flavour, good mouthfeel and more importantly than anything taste of coffee! When I say that I mean Chocolate, with caramel and nuts. Easy to brew with no nasty surprises.
We always run alongside GT some really interesting African single origin fruit bombs but GT has to be coffee tasting coffee!
So when we cupped this single origin from the Huehuetenango region in Guatemala, initially it really stood out on the cupping table but we were then thinking of something it would match well with in a blend. It was a very quick realisation that it didn’t actually need anything else because it was perfect as it was. So there it is. BFGT V6 is a single origin! It’s big on flavour, full bodied and sweet. Expect black cherry, malt and chocolate. This coffee ticks all the boxes! We really dig it and think you will too.
